VW Transporter T5 / T5.1 window motors failing

Window motors on VW (and Audi, Skoda, SEAT) from about 2004 onwards.

Nightmare !

We see this online all the time, something like 'my window motor has stopped, I've bought 3 second hand ones with exactly the same part number from eBay and now half the electrics on my van don't work.

So, the part number on the MOTOR is common across a lot of T5 models, however it's the black box ECU on the side that causes the headache.

These ECUs are coded with specific software from the factory that is coded to the exact specification of your van. So if you have electric windows then that's one software code, if you have electric mirrors then that's a different one. You have a door lock / unlock button in the door trim panel, that's another software code in the ECU. Oooohhh, got remote locking AND power mirrors, that's another pile of sofware codes in the ECU.

Fit the wrong ecu code and things will either stop working altogether, or will work in unexected ways - yes, we've had people fit 2nd hand units and when they press the up button for the drivers window, the passenger side one goes down.
