Genuine / Aftermarket / OEM etc. Confused ?

Are you confused about what you're actually buying for your car / van ?

We see it all the time - 'I can get these much cheaper from _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _   _ _ _" etc

Here at Deutscheparts, we only sell either Genuine Parts or very very high quality OEM items.

Let’s start by explaining the differences between the parts.

Genuine parts are parts supplied by the vehicle manufacturer in their packaging*

OEM = Original equipment manufacturer part is a part made by the manufacture or made for them to their specification but an external company. However, there is often a lot of confusion where OEM are though of as the same quality as Genuine parts and that's not the case. Just because a manufacturer makes Genuine parts for a motor company, it does not mean that the parts they supply to the after market are the same quality, they're most often not, hence the lower price.

Aftermarket parts are parts produced by any other company. Often they are reverse engineered to be a very close to the original specification. Many options are available which can vary wildly in price and quality.

*Genuine parts are often NOT supplied in retail packaging as they are not normally destined for retail markets. 

There's no magic wand with car parts, you really do get what you pay for, so if you just want your car / van back on the road at the lowest possible cost and you're not worried about whether the parts fail in 3 months time, then low cost aftermarket is for you. If you want your car to be absolutely reliable and for the item to fit first time and last a decent time, then genuine parts are the answer. If you want something inbetween, then aftermarket is the way forward.
